The Embassy & Mission
The Embassy and Permanent Mission of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana in Geneva, Switzerland is accredited as a bilateral Mission to the Governments of Switzerland, Finland and Italy and as a multilateral Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Health Organization (WHO), International Labour Organization (ILO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), International Organization for Migration (IOM), UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and World Trade Organization (WTO).
It is also accredited to the United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy and covers the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna
and several other Geneva-based organizations such as the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT),
Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), the
Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions and the Minamata Convention and other
international organizations and programmes.
The Mission was established on October 1, 2016, to advance cooperation with the aforementioned agencies and Governments of Switzerland, Finland and Italy, in the areas of human rights, trade and investments, business, security, labour, and health and to support training and capacity building initiatives in Guyana.
Its overall objective is to uphold the sanctity of Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in positioning Guyana for long-term advantage, by promoting and maintaining respect for international law and identifying and seizing opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation in support of national development.
