Visa Procedure

Visa Procedure

  • All visa applicants must comply with the requirements below and must be in possession of a valid passport issued by their government.
  • Visas are valid from the date of issue, for a period of one month to five years, depending on the type of visa obtained. Guyana currently issues VisitorBusinessCourtesyEmploymentand Student visas, depending on the purpose of visit and length of stay.
  • Visas may be granted upon arrival to persons travelling from countries where there is no Guyana Mission. See requirements here
  • Extensions of Stay (EoS) – for all category of visas, are granted at the discretion of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration Office in Georgetown.  
  • Payments are to be made in cash and are non-refundable. For passports sent to the Embassy by post, and to be returned to the sender, kindly provide a self-addressed envelope.
  • Guyanese citizens travelling on a foreign passport do not require a visa to visit Guyana, provided that the passport clearly indicates the place of birth to be ‘Guyana’ or a well-recognized place in Guyana such as Georgetown, Demerara, Essequibo, Berbice or Corentyne. If this is not the case, documentary proof of birth in Guyana must be presented to Immigration authorities in Guyana, such proof being a birth certificate (both birth and marriage certificates in the case of a married woman) or an expired Guyana passport.
  • As a general rule, visas may be issued within three (3) working days. This period may, in individual cases, be extended.

Please Note:

  • There is no assurance that a visa will be issued; any preparation or plan made for the journey would be done at the applicant’s own risk.
  • Failure to complete the form in the appropriate manner or to provide the required supporting documents will result in a delay in the processing of the application.
  • Applications should be submitted at least one (1) weekin advance of the proposed date of travel. Additional time may be needed for applications from other Cantons/cities.
  • Permission for employment in Guyana must be obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Georgetown. Employment is defined as a working engagement, paid or unpaid and includes religion-related occupation.
  • A visitor who, without permission, breaches the conditions of entry while in Guyana may be liable for prosecution and [or] deportation.
  • All health certificates, where required, should have a validity of three (3) months
